Taking its theme from James Agee’s poem Sure on This Shining Night (set to music by Morten Lauridsen), the Chorale’s popular holiday concert focuses this year on the stars. The program will sparkle with Bach’s beloved cantata Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, with soloists Joan Kirchner and John Murelle and luminous renderings of The Shepherd’s Carol by William Billings and Mendelssohn’s There Shall a Star Come Out of Jacob.”  A string quartet and oboist from the New England Conservatory join Randolph James on organ. Audience caroling, including John Rutter’s Star Carol, will bring a celestial glow to the historic and festively decorated First Congregational Church.
